Note: Currently, audio of the Neil Gow Pochette being played by Darci Jones (not the physical instrument) is slated to be part of the pochette exhibition at Ringve – the Norwegian national museum of musical instruments, which is part of the DigitaltMuseum system, more or less an online catelog of many Norwegian museums.
Audio of Neil Gow Pochette by Don Rickert Design Lutherie and distributed via the Adventurous Muse Store has been selected as part of an upcoming exhibition of pochettes, violini picollo (short scale pochettes) and kit fiddles at Ringve - the Norwegian National Museum of Musical Instruments. The Neil Gow Pochette being played (audio only) will be part of a collection of audio samples on a hand-held audio guide (made by a company called “Audioguide”), where visitors to Ringve museum will be able to punch a code into the device to hear stories and musical examples about instruments in the museum's collection.
The wonderful sound and playability of the Neil Gow Pochette is unique among typical historic reproduction musical instruments of its type. This is reflected in the words of commenter on the sound the Neil Gow Pochette in the video from which the Ringve museum's sound sample was taken:
Wow - that sounds great ! To my understanding, this size/style of instrument usually doesn't have much of a bass response - but this one does. Some luthier magic there (and a good player too) !
The link to the recording (MP3 format) that Ringve Museum is using (taken from one of our YouTube videos) appears below.
The YouTube video from which the MP3 sample was taken, as well as well as other YouTube videos, are shown below. We have included the direct links to the videos as well.
